STAR CREW for ages 11-13 years. STAR CREW has two streams of classes. Our Recreational Classes (referred to as Rec Classes)are designed for those who love to dance but do not want to compete but will still participate in our half year and end of year concert.
Our Showgroup Classes are for those students who want to take it to the next level by competing all year round plus stage performances as well as our half year and end of year concerts. Please see below for more descriptions of the classes offered for each stream.
All our classes have a disciplined environment yet still allowing children to have a great time. We strongly believe in the children learning in class and our creative approach is why they come back wanting more week after week. Rec classes still get the same amazing teachers that our competitive students have.
This class teaches jazz technique as well as some funky moves and a routine to go in our mid year and end of year concert. Jazz is to popular music and has a fun cardio style as well as teaching turns, kicks, flexibility, isolations and connecting steps. Our staff create a positive and fun environment in this class focusing on the student achieving their best and working individuals at their own level. This is a great class to start in if your child has never danced before.
Intermediate Acro is for both our competition kids as well as our rec kids. It teaches acrobatics including cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, flexibility, backbends, handstands and backwards walk overs. We have a few levels in this class so that s your child progresses they can move up and learn new and exciting things when their body is ready on an individual level. We also offer an advanced level of acrobatics for this age group where children who already have advanced skills can progress. This level is at the discretion of our acrobatics coaches and they will let you know if your child is ready to progress to this level.
This is a very popular style which uses steps from Various Hip Hop techniques. In this class your child will be learning how to isolate their body and learn Hip Hop steps to popular music. Students wear sneakers to this class. This class will have the opportunity to perform in our mid year and end of year concerts. Hip Hop is a great fitness class because it never stops moving and is a LOT of fun!
Modern is a combination of jazz and ballet moves. It is done to softer popular music such as Birdy or Adele. This class combines technique, stretching and moves relevant to Lyrical and Contemporary Dance. Students do not wear shoes for this class. This is very popular as PAWS is so well known for it’s strengths in this style of dance.
A great Class for an introduction to circus skills. In this class your child will be able to have a try at everything in our circus syllabus. This will include…juggling, silks, trapeze and hoop. The class is done in a circuit format so that every lesson they get a try at all skills. These students are given the opportunity to perform in our circus and acrobatics showcase in October.
STAR CREW Showgroup
Children who love to get up on the stage and perform in eisteddfods and festivals are know as our Showgroup students. At this age these students must come to two ballet classes, one technique class and their show group class as a minimum each week. We do around five competitions per year as well as some local festivals. This way the children get some chances to perform without it overtaking your family life. The classes exclusive for these children are listed below.
In this class your child will be learning a safe and correct way to stretch. They will learn turning, kicks and leaps. They learn about their muscles and how they need to work when we dance. Popular music is used in this class and it has an energetic and positive feel.
This is where our competition kids who are ten or under on the 1st of January 2014 learn their dance routine for the year. We have great success in eisteddfods and are well known in the dance world for our age appropriate and creative routine. Your child will love this class as they learn to work hard in a team environment to achieve their goals. In this class they will be learning a jazz routine. 12/U Lyrical Showgroup: Our Intermediate students who do two classes of ballet per week are allowed to join this class to learn lyrical work and a lyrical routine. Lyrical is a combination of jazz and ballet together and is done to popular music that is soft and pretty but that usually has a singer. This is a very popular class and PAWS is very well known for it’s work in this genre of dance.
This is where our Hip Hop Showgroup students learn their Hip Hop technique as well as a routine to compete with at competitions. This class is taught by the amazing James Barry from Phly Crew.
This is where our Showgroup students are able to learn their tap technique as well as their routine for competition.
This is for our show group students who love to act as well as dance. This class is great for character building and also incorporates any children who are good at singing. This class will learn a routine from a famous musical for competitions.
This is a class specifically concentrating on the aerial side of things. Lyra, hoop, silks and trapeze are all taught in this class and stretching and technique is also a component. This is a more specified circus class and gives the children more time on the apparatus.
This class is a specific class that concentrates on Hand balancing techniques and contortion techniques. This goes hand in hand with our aerial classes and helps the student to become stronger and more flexible to cope with the apparatus work. .
Our ballet classes are also for both our rec and non rec students and rec students are more than welcome to sit their assessments with the Royal Academy of Dancing if they would like to. PAWS kids love ballet because we have a special way of teaching it so that the children get results while still having fun. Our outstanding results in exams are proof of our successful teaching techniques.
This is for our children who are ten and incorporates the syllabus from the Royal Academy of Dancing as well as our own teaching. Grade 3 is a fun and challenging grade which incorporates creative music and clever exercises to teach the skills. Children will be inspired to come back for more with this grade as they gain confidence through learning new skills as well as having fun with imagery and games that are geared towards helping them learn. Children who would like to sit their RAD exam or assessment will need to attend two classes.
This is for our children who are eleven to twelve years and incorporates the syllabus from the Royal Academy of Dancing as well as our own teaching. Grade 5 is a challenging grade which is the final grade before students go up to the more senior levels. Students in this class are encouraged to attend the beginner pointe class and when the teachers feel they are ready are allowed to go to the physio for a pointe shoe assessment. Once approved they are allowed to be fitted for these special shoes. Children will be inspired to come back for more with this grade as they gain confidence through learning new skills. Children who would like to sit their RAD exam or assessment will need to attend two classes.
