RISING STARS

RISING STARS  is for ages 8-10 years. Junior has two streams of classes. Our Recreational Classes (referred to as Rec Classes) are designed for those who love to dance but do not want to compete but will still participate in our half year and end of year concert.

Our Showgroup Classes are for those students who want to take it to the next level by competing all year round, plus stage performances, as well as our half-year and end of year concerts. Please see below for more descriptions of the classes offered for each stream.

RISING STARS classes are specifically designed for children aged 8-10 years who want to learn dance and circus in a fun positive environment. We offer many different styles for this age group including jazz, ballet, tap, glee club, hip hop, circus and more. Come along for a free trial to see which style suits you.

RISING STARS Recreational Classes

This class teaches the basics of jazz technique as well as some funky moves and a routine to go in our mid-year and end of year concerts. Jazz is to popular music and has a fun cardio style as well as teaching basic starts to turns, kicks, flexibility, isolations and connecting steps. Our staff are very careful to use appropriate music for this age group and play games and use imagery to stimulate the learning process. This is a great class to start in if your child has never danced before.

Junior Acro is for both our competition kids as well as our rec kids. It teaches the basics of acrobatics including cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, flexibility, backbends and backwards walk overs. We have a few levels in this class so that as your child progresses they can move up, and learn new and exciting things, when their body is ready on an individual level. We also offer an advanced level of acrobatics for this age group where children who already have advanced skills can progress. This level is at the discretion of our acrobatics coaches and they will let you know if your child is ready to progress to this level.

This is a very popular style which uses steps from various Hip Hop techniques. In this class your child will be learning how to isolate the body and learn some basic Hip Hop steps to popular music, suitable for their age group. Students wear sneakers to this class. These students will have the opportunity to perform in our mid-year and end of year concerts.

Modern is a combination of jazz and ballet moves. It is done to softer popular music such as Birdy or Adele. This class combines technique, stretching and moves relevant to Lyrical and Contemporary Dance. Students do not wear shoes for this class. This is very popular as PAWS is so well known for its strengths in this style of dance.

A great class for an introduction to circus skills. In this class your child will be able to have a try at everything in our circus syllabus. This will include juggling, silks, trapeze and hoop. The class is done in a circuit format so that in every lesson, the students get a try at all skills. These students are given the opportunity to perform in our circus and acrobatics showcase in October.

RISING STARS Showgroup Classes

Children who love to get up on the stage and perform in eisteddfods and festivals are know as our Showgroup students. At this age these students must come to one ballet class, one technique class and their showgroup class as a minimum each week. We do around five competitions per year as well as some local festivals. This way the children get some chances to perform without it overtaking your family life. The classes exclusive for these children are listed below.

In this class your child will be learning a safe and correct way to stretch. They will learn turning, kicks and leaps. They learn about their muscles and how they need to work when we dance. Popular music is used in this class and our teachers are very aware of using appropriate music for the age group. Juniors are starting to advance their steps from pre-junior but don't worry if your child is only just starting. We find that the kids improve very quickly at PAWS
